The acupuncturist will make a detailed assessment of you. The practitioner seeks to understand your symptoms to discover and treat the energy imbalance that is causing them. A practitioner will listen to and assess many things including the tone of your voice, the colour or hue of your skin and the general demeanour of spirit. The practitioner will also observe your tongue, your abdomen and measure the 12 pulses, a technique that is unique to Chinese Medicine.

ACUPUNCTURE AS AN ALTERNATIVE THERAPY FOR CONCEPTION, PREGNANCY, DELIVERY, AS WELL AS POST NATAL CARE FOR BOTH THE MOTHER AND CHILD
Acupuncture is an ideal form of therapy that can be used at all four stages of bringing a child into the world - conception, pregnancy, labor and post childbirth. Using acupuncture points on the body will balance the energy flow within the body to both nurture and support the physical and emotional changes of the mother and child.
Acupuncture can be implemented at any stage from strengthening the mother’s and father's constitution in preparation for conception, to improving egg and sperm quality.
It offers women a drug-free choice for any physical or emotional symptoms that can arise during pregnancy and childbirth. These may take the form of lower back pain, nausea, fluid retention, feelings of stress, worry, anxiety and the sense of being overwhelmed. These conditions can be minimised through both acupuncture and massage techniques.
During the final stages of pregnancy, acupuncture can help reduce the level of medical interventions with breech position births, inductions, and overdue babies, thus allowing women to achieve natural childbirth. Post natal care is also a vital component of motherhood and not limited to just those women who had difficult or prolonged labors and caesarean sections. Post natal care focuses on strengthening and energising the exhausted mother while soothing the new baby. New mothers suffering afterbirth pains, mastitis or depression will find it beneficial to receive acupuncture treatments during this period to relieve their conditions.
